From yesterday, November 7 2019, the Stelvio pass is officially closed to traffic. The SS38 from "Bagni Vecchi" to the top of the epic pass is "ready to sleep a bit for the winter season. As every year from the Lombardia side (from the 106,50 kilometre to the 124,304 kilometre on the border with Trentino Alto Adige) the road is now under the supervision of the maintainers of ANAS. The workers of the national agency for the roads are removing all the road signs.
Winter coat and gloves on, snow chains for the cars and suddenly a magic 50 centimeters of white blanket covers the surface of the hairpin bends!
